When downspouts from the eavestroughs surrounding upper roofs are drained onto the lower roofs and allowed to drain across the shingles into the lower sections of eavestroughs the areas of the shingles directly below the upper downspouts wear out much quicker than the rest of the shingles on the roof. This can cause the roof to leak in these particular areas even though the rest of the roof is in very good shape and can lead to much larger damages if not repaired. They also do not look very good. An easy way to avoid costly roofing repairs and other damages caused by a leaking roof due to worn out shingles where upper downspouts drain on to lower roof is to extend these downspouts to drain directly into the lower sections of eavestroughs. This is a very cost effective way to maximize the lifespan of your asphalt shingles.

A small eavestrough and downspout reconfiguration job we completed over the weekend on a commercial building. The customer was having issues with icy sidewalks as well as an icy loading dock due to leaking eavestroughs and downspouts. We were able to solve the issues by installing new continuous eavestroughs that no longer had seams like the old eavestroughs did. We also reconfigured how the downspouts were ran to eliminate some of the leaks that were being caused by the old downspouts which in turn allowed the new eavestrough and downspout set up to work much better than the prior set up. Since this warehouse is a distribution centre for Canada Post it is extremely busy during the week days.
